The client FDMG (FD Mediagroep) is a media group who owns a cross-media platform existing of print, radio, online and events. Through these media platforms they offer various ways of advertising. They are quite unique in the market, because they are so close to their own brands. This is how they know the target groups of their platforms so accurately. This leads to many more success stories, because the message of the advertisements ends up exactly at the right target audience.

FDMG wanted to redesign their website in both UX and UI. Their current website missed information and appearance, which led to a poor user experience towards their target audiences. We could conclude the website missed:

  • Corporate information (the personality behind their brands and showing authority)
  • Product information (more details about all the specific products they have)
  • Advising their customers (lead generation)

The process and reflection

Since the website missed this information we went to work on the structure of the sitemap. The main goal was to make sure that all the information which is missing or not displayed in the correct way will be added in such a manner that the structure was going to make sense to the users. Based on the missing information we made a set of three target audiences which should all lead to the same end goal: a specific product within FDMG.

The target audience existed of:

  1. Users who are looking for a specific brand within the FD Mediagroep
  2. Users who are looking for a specific way to advertise (print, radio, online and events) at the FD Mediagroep
  3. Users who are not sure what the options are and want to be advised

Based on these target audiences we made pages dedicated to: Merken (brands), Advertentiemogelijkheden (advertising possibilities) and a Campagne-check (campaign-check).

On the page of the first one (brands) it would showcase all the goals of advertising of the brand, USPs, overview of analytics based on success, information about the target audience of the brand and all the products the user can advertise on within the brand.

On the second one (advertising possibilities) could find information related to a specific way of advertising at FD Mediagroep. Information such as: an overview of the brand FDMG owns to achieve this advertising possibility, overview of analytics based on success, the advantages of this advertising possibility and all the products along with the brands the user can advertise on.

If option one and two are not what the user is looking for the third one (campaign-check) would be covering that. The campaign-check consist of a series of around 3/4 questions which will lead to around two product suggestions for the user to pick from, based on the questions they answered (like budget, target audience, etc.).

We also looked at various ways to improve the authority of FDMG on the website overall with the use of example cases. With these cases they can show the success of their previous clients to show their expertise within the advertising business. Besides authority we also wanted to give FDMG more options to write more specific content on certain topics as wel. That is why we designed component for them to give them the power to create their own pages within FDMG.

The project was more complex, but I tried to narrow it down to a summary. In this case I highlighted the UX phase, the UI phase is currently still in development.
